97° Giro d'Italia

La 97ma edizione del Giro d'Italia con le sue 21 tappe per un totale di 3'449,9 km, partirà quest'anno venerdì 9 maggio da Belfast in Irlanda del Nord per terminare il 1 giugno a Trieste in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Dopo le prime 3 tappe in Irlanda il Giro sbarcherà in Italia con la Giovinazzo-Bari in Puglia. Attesissima la penultima tappa con arrivo sul Monte Zoncolan e la sua temuta salita di 10,1 km con un dislivello di 1.203 m, e una pendenza media dell'11,9% e massima del 22%.

 

Ma la pendenza del Monte Zoncolan non sarà l'unica dura sfida da affrontare in salita: la 16/a tappa Ponte di Legno-Val Martello vedrà i corridori percorrere Gavia, Passo dello Stelvio e Val Martello, mentre la 18a avrà le ascese del Passo San Pellegrino, Passe del Redebus e la salita fino al Rifigio Panarotta.


Sono previste una cronometro a squadre, due cronometro individuali, 8 tappe per sprinter, 5 di media montagna e 5 di alta montagna. Inoltre per il decennale della sua morte, sarà dedicata la 15a tappa di Montecampione a Marco Pantani, dove il Pirata nel 1998 ebbe la meglio su Tonkov conquistando il Giro d'Italia.
